Simon Banks, prosecution lawyer in 'The Hurt' trilogy.

Simon Banks - Lawyer

Simon Banks, the lawyer. What can I reveal about the dodgy Simon?

Let me think...He's a lawyer with a questionable reputation but he manages to always stay on the right side of the law...just. How does he do that? Well, it's because he employs others to do his dirty work...with no 'come back' on him.

In court, he has earned himself a reputation for being arrogant and extremely ruthless in his usual role of being on the prosecution team. Amongst London's criminal fraternity, Simon has built up a crew of unsavoury characters as his informants. It's therefore, not unusual for him to be seen visiting those who have been put behind bars if he feels they could be of use to him. Usually there would be some attractive incentive which will be in place on their release from prison.

Past witnesses have stated that due to Banks' loud, booming voice while he is cross-examining, they have felt unsettled and somewhat intimidated. However, when he is cross-examining as a defence lawyer, his manner shows a somewhat softer side; kind, considerate and with a nice, tone of gentle persuasion to coax witnesses who are perhaps a little nervous.

Though he always professes to love his wife, Simon is a serial cheater. He thinks that all women are there for the taking - not through rape or violence, but he manages to draw them in with his arrogant magnetism and they fall for him. Simon has a huge sexual appetite and a penchant for raw, dirty sex. His wife is not very forthcoming in that department, and that is always his excuse for the need to cheat.

Simon is a man who loves to get his own way, particularly where the ladies are concerned. If he suspects that any of his 'lady friends' are giving him the runaround, he'll resort to using his booming voice laced with plenty of profanity. Many before her may have been intimidated, but not Helen. Helen always gives as much back as he dishes out. He likes that about her and it is probably why his 'thing' with Helen lasted as long as it did. It wasn't only about the dirty sex, he loved the way that she stood up to him and was totally independent.

Some of Simon's bad traits are, his bad temper, always demanding to have his own way, his reluctance to listen and thinking that he is always right.

His redeeming character traits are, his generosity, his loyalty, especially to those he loves or values, (with the exception of course of his adulterous tendencies), and his kindness.
