Capri
What have I gotten myself into? I wanted a little adventure before going back home, but did I want this much excitement? My gut instincts screamed through a megaphone not to do this, but as I stared at this god in front of me, my body had other ideas.
“Well?” He stood by the edge of the pool and shed himself of his bathing suit with one swift motion.
“Oh.” I shielded my eyes and glanced down at the elaborate pavers surrounding the pool, but not before catching a glimpse of his tattooed, muscled back and rock-solid behind.
It was only when his body splashed into the water that I dared to remove my hand from my eyes. His hair was wet and slicked back and his naked form was submerged in the water when I looked up.
“What are you waiting for?” He swam closer to where I stood as I debated my morals. Where had my standards gotten me so far? “The water is perfect,” he said, resting his arms on the edge of the pool and gazing up at me with his vibrant, green eyes. “Join me.”
“Can you at least show some manners and turn around?” I toyed with the strap on my shoulder.
“Who said I had manners?” He bit the corner of his lip, releasing all of his impolite magnetism in my direction before facing the other direction. “You have five seconds before I turn back around.”
I tugged my sundress over my head and tossed it on the lounge chair. I quickly unhooked my bra and laid it on top of the dress. As I latched my fingers on either side of my panties, I contemplated my next move.
Am I really doing this?
“Three seconds.” The water swished in the pool.
I guess so. I skimmed my panties down my legs and left them on the pool deck. My heart raced as I hustled over to the steps and immersed myself into the refreshing water. The humidity mixed with climbing the fence had left me hotter than I would have liked.
Melting was not a good look for me, especially not in front of a man who probably looked steamier when he was sweaty.
I swam to the deeper end so I could keep myself shielded in the water. He joined me, but he was still able to touch the bottom of the pool without going under. The water barely covered his broad shoulders.
“I’m in the pool." I treaded, keeping my head above the water. “Can I have answers now?”
“What do you want to know?”
“How do you know my father?”
“We grew up together.” He reached for my arm, bringing me back to where I could touch. “You’re going to tire yourself out if you keep that up.”
“I have pretty good stamina.” I put some distance between us, feeling confident that my track background kept me fit enough to tread water for a few minutes. “Were you close?”
“I considered him like a brother,” he said. “We were closer than brothers.”
“What happened?”
“We had a falling out.”
“Over a woman?”
“No.”
As I asked questions and he gave vague answers, he swam around me. Every time I spun around to face him, he swiftly glided out of my sight.
“Were you fighting about business?” I swam to the side of the pool and held on to give my legs a break.
“What do you know about your father’s business?”
“Enough to know I shouldn’t ask questions about it.”
Of course, not being supposed to ask about where my father’s money came from never stopped my inquisitive side. I began researching him at a young age. Most of the stuff I found online didn’t portray my family in the best light, but he was still my father.
“We had a disagreement over something that had to do with his business.” He met me by the side of the pool and stood in front of me. We weren’t deep enough for the water to cover the tops of my breasts, but now that he was this close to me, I didn’t seem to care. “If you want those answers, you’ll have to ask him.”
“I can tell him we met?”
“That’s entirely up to you.” He wrapped his arm around me and brought me to him. Skin to skin. Wet, hot, desirable flesh. “What I tell you next, you might not like.”
“I’m not complaining right now.” I draped my arms over his shoulders, no longer resisting the undeniable attraction between us. “You said you knew me as a child.”
“I did.”
That was a little weird, but it wasn’t as if we were talking about a grooming situation or anything inappropriate. Well, unless someone considered what we were doing now inappropriate. It didn’t feel as if it was going to be regrettable. But my father might disagree.
“I don’t remember you.”
“I left when you were almost three, but I wasn’t around much before that. I worked a lot. We didn’t interact on a daily basis.”
“What exactly was your job?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
The mist from the ocean in the distance coated our skin as he drifted us across the pool. His muscles coiled against my body, but I was careful not to shift too much, keeping my legs straight down so our lower halves didn’t come into contact.
“Your father asked something of me when you were born, and I considered it an honor.”
“What was it?”
“He asked me to be your godfather.”
“Oh.” That nagging, little voice inside my head, the one that always spoke the loudest when I was in the middle of jumping headfirst into a catastrophic situation, screamed for me to get out of this pool. “You didn’t, I mean… are you?”
“Your godfather?”
I nodded as I closed my eyes and prayed the answer wasn’t what I feared it would be.
“I am, Capri.”
Now, that’s really weird. But for some strange reason, I still didn’t regret being here.
“My godfather?” Don’t freak out. “That’s a little taboo, isn’t it?”
“What do you know about taboo?”
“Apparently, not enough.” I let go of him and swam to the side of the pool, creating some distance, but he was too quick. The splashes of water sprayed my face as he got closer.
“You are a minnow and I’m a shark.” He pinned me between his body and the tiles of the pool wall. “You came into dangerous water seeking answers to questions that were better left unanswered.”
“I’m skinny-dipping with my godfather. How was I supposed to see that coming?”
“If you weren’t out here playing Scooby-Doo, you wouldn't have had to see it coming. You could have left things alone last night. You didn’t have to come here and unearth a past that I had no interest in revisiting.” He shifted his hips, pushing his very impressive length against my thigh. “You agitated the hornets’ nest. Can you handle what’s about to happen next?”
When he grabbed my hips and slammed his chest against mine, I hooked my legs around his waist. He secured his muscular arms, holding me tight.
“I didn’t know who you were when I agreed to take my clothes off.” God help me, I still might have ended up here even if I had known. “But you knew who I was. Don’t you have any morals?”
“First, you want me to have manners, and now you want me to have morals?”
“It’s not that much to ask.”
“Some would say my morals are gray.” He smirked. “Let’s not get hung up on the godfather aspect. I haven’t been that to you in almost twenty years, but when I accepted the role, I vowed to look after you. I did that last night when I prevented you from being drugged and raped.”
“I appreciate that, but maybe we should leave it there.” I said the words but I didn’t mean them. I wanted to explore whatever brewed between us. “No good can come from this.”
“I couldn’t agree more.” He pressed his lips to the corner of my mouth. “I will wreck you.”
“How do you know I won’t destroy you first?” I brushed my trembling lips along his mouth as my heart pounded faster than when I came across the finish line after a race.
“Is it a battle you’re looking for?” He sailed his hand up my side and to my breasts, twirling his finger around my nipple. “Because I’m pretty sure I’ll win the war.”
“Not if I strike first.” I gave into my desires, taking the chance I didn’t want to miss. I tilted my head, closed my eyes, and pushed my mouth against his, kissing him like I had imagined since first setting my sights on him last night. He had conquered my dreams, and now I wanted him to be my reality.
When I saw him glide across the club, oozing sex appeal and exuding a confident swagger reserved for powerful men who could have whatever they wanted, I had to be in his orbit. Greece was supposed to be my opportunity to become a woman and leave the college girl behind.
“Sebastian.” I moaned when he shifted his hips and rubbed his length against my slit. I tightened my legs around him and moved with him as a dizzying commotion filled my head.
He slid his hand from my breasts to my hair, gripping it hard and taking control of the kiss. Forcing his tongue inside my mouth, he relentlessly dominated the encounter. I’m here for it all.
His taut body pulsated against mine, rendering me helpless to his actions. I would have given into his every demand, surrendering to him in ways that I feared I could never recover from.
He broke the kiss with my hair still in his firm clutch, keeping my face steady as I gasped for air. His shaft was still wedged between my legs, holding me hostage. My insides ached for him to penetrate me, to take me, to claim me. To own me…
“You may have struck first, little minnow, but if we keep this up, I will be the one to deliver the final blow.” He released my hair. “I took this too far tonight. I can own that.”
I gazed down, feeling defeated.
“Look at me.” He grasped my chin and forced me to hold his gaze. “You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.”
“This isn’t me,” I said. “I’ve never been this bold before. I don’t know what’s happening, but I don’t want to leave Greece and regret what could have been.”
I had never experienced this kind of intimacy with any man before. I had promised myself I would wait for the right moment, for the perfect guy. Was that guy supposed to be him?
“What are you trying to tell me?” He let go of my chin. “It’s best to be direct, so there are no misunderstandings.”
“I’ve never…” Why did this confession seem more difficult than any other? “I’ve been waiting and I don’t think I want to anymore.”
“You’re caught up in the moment. That’s the hardest regret to overcome, especially when the realization of what you’ve done sets in. Trust me, I know.”
“Do you think I'll be a regret to you?”
“I’ve done plenty in my life that I wish I hadn’t, but something tells me I would never feel anguish over you.”
“What are we going to do about this forbidden association?”
“Nothing tonight.”
“Why not?”
“Because if you really believe I’m the one you’ve been waiting for, I’m going to give you an opportunity most people don’t get. I’m going to let you walk out of here tonight unscathed.” His sexy lips curved into an irresistible smile. “I’ll give you twenty-four hours to rethink this. You can decide if being with me is what you really want.”
Underneath that dark, mysterious exterior was a gentleman. Who knew?
“Atticus will retrieve you from your hotel tomorrow evening and bring you here to spend the night with me.” He brushed his lips along mine, forcing a shiver to shatter into me. “I’ll give you the night you’ve been waiting for, but don’t expect it to be hearts and flowers. That’s not who I am.”
“Who are you?”
“You’ll have to accept my offer to find out.” He caressed my cheek. “Before you decide, let me offer you some advice.”
He kissed me again, but this time it wasn’t as persistent as a few minutes ago. My mind wasn’t swirling like I’d had too much to drink. When our lips connected, I understood the assignment. Our paths had crossed because he was meant to take what I had never offered anyone else. I could be his, if only for one fleeting night.
“Your advice?” I asked in a breathless whisper.
“It’s more of a warning.” His gaze burned into mine, filling me with a longing I didn’t know I was capable of. “Run.”
